Lewis Hamilton, Serena Williams be part of Broughton consortium bid to purchase Chelsea

Tennis star Serena Williams and Method One titan Lewis Hamilton have joined Martin Broughton’s bid to purchase Chelsea, a supply advised Reuters on Thursday.

Former Liverpool chairman Broughton’s consortium contains World Athletics president Sebastian Coe and rich traders from all over the world, who the group says all want to keep Chelsea’s high standing in world soccer.

Personal fairness veterans Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who personal sport groups together with the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, are additionally backing Broughton’s bid.

Williams and Hamilton have pledged an estimated £10 million ($13.06m) every to the bid.

Reuters have approached Broughton and Williams’ representatives for remark.

Remaining bids for Chelsea, which was put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich amid sanctions being imposed on the oligarch by the British authorities after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, have been submitted earlier this month.

Others on the shortlist to purchase the Premier League membership are L.A. Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and Boston Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca.

A consortium led by Chicago Cubs homeowners the Ricketts household, which was formally opposed by the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust, pulled out of the running.

The membership’s sale is being overseen by U.S. financial institution Raine Group.
