The Struggles of Finding Clothes as a Bodybuilder

If you’re a bodybuilder, powerlifter, strongman, or all-around muscular guy then you know the struggles of finding clothes that actually fit. Most dress shirts are simply too small in the chest and shoulders, and even muscle-fit shirts often don’t cut it – we aren’t talking about a t-shirt to make your arms look bigger than they actually are; we are talking about finding something that fits truly big arms comfortably. Then when you do find a shirt that fits well around your shoulders, back, chest and arms, you realize the lower part of the shirt resembles more of a floaty dress on you. aIt can be extremely frustrating to try on shirt after shirt, only to find that none of them fit properly.

But why is it so hard to find dress shirts for bodybuilders? It all has to do with proportions. Most dress shirts are designed for men who are taller and thinner than the average bodybuilder. This means that they simply don’t have the right proportions to fit a muscular physique. If you’ve been hitting the gym or have your own home weights set, are smashing the bodybuilding supplements and you’re committed to regular training, chances are you will start to struggle with normal-fitting clothes.

The good news is that there are a few companies out there that are beginning to design dress shirts specifically for bodybuilders. These shirts are cut to fit a muscular chest and shoulders, and they often have longer sleeves to accommodate larger arms.

If you’re struggling to find dress shirts that fit, be sure to check out some of the options from companies that specialize in clothing for bodybuilders. With a little bit of effort, you should be able to find a shirt that fits you perfectly. One brand that we have found is Diamond Theory Clothing. Diamond Theory is a British Company based in the North-West of England, which launched in 2019 with the aim of producing the best muscle-fit clothing in the world. They spent 2 years in research and development – studying muscle bellies, body contour, insertions, and movement, and developing garments that accommodate real muscle and mass. You should check them out if you’re a bodybuilder, powerlifter, or strongman on the lookout for great-fitting dress shirts, t-shirts, hoodies, and training jerseys.

Some of the most well-known training brands, such as Under Armour and Gym Shark do offer small ranges for bodybuilders, but the truth is they’re lacking in the research and development required to achieve truly great fits. There are also lots of boutique training clothing brands out there, such as Lululemon, which offer amazing quality but weren’t born within the bodybuilding community and so always leave us feeling a bit like an afterthought. The final consideration is that there is definitely a big difference between clothing for bodybuilders and “muscle-fit” clothes which are designed for the Average Joe who does a bit of weightlifting at the gym and wants a t-shirt to show off his arms a bit more. Make sure you know what you’re getting!

The most important thing of all is that you’re comfortable with whatever you’re wearing. If you have any more brand recommendations that work for you, we’d love to hear them!
