Lightning’s inconsiderate attitude causes him to ignore his pit crew during this high-stakes event, leading to a catastrophic crash and Chick Hicks’ eventual win of the race. After racing has concluded, Lightning decides to stay behind and help revitalize Radiator Springs along with Mater and Sally, also becoming the new spokesperson for Rust-eze bumper ointment.

Development for Cars began shortly after Pixar completed A Bug’s Life in 1998. John Lasseter, the creator of Pixar’s Cars series, initially imagined McQueen as a NASCAR-styled stock car resembling a Chevrolet Monte Carlo called Monty. However, due to the simplistic and flat appearance of this design, Lasseter decided to redesign McQueen as something closer to an amalgam of various sports cars instead. Later, he named it Lightning McQueen after his childhood nickname. Lightning became one of the stars of the Disney/Pixar film Cars and its two sequels, Cars 2 and Cars 3. Additionally, he has appeared as a recurring character on Cars Toons as well as multiple other animated projects worldwide, earning over $3.6 billion worldwide since release! This series stands as one of the highest-grossing franchises ever.
