WASHINGTON — BMW of North America is recalling greater than 917,000 U.S. autos for potential points with the valve heater that would trigger the half to overheat, rising the chance of a hearth whereas driving or quickly after when parked.
The recall supersedes and expands two earlier remembers in 2017 and 2019 by the German automaker that affected greater than 740,000 autos from the 2007-11 mannequin years and about 184,500 autos from the 2006 mannequin 12 months, respectively.
Autos beforehand repaired underneath these two remembers might want to return to a dealership when a brand new treatment has been decided, in line with a NHTSA doc launched Wednesday.

In a recall report submitted March 2 to NHTSA, BMW stated the affected autos include a Optimistic Crankcase Air flow, or PCV, valve heater that “could not have been produced by the provider to specs.”
Half irregularities may result in a brief circuit and trigger the PCV valve heater to overheat, rising the chance of a hearth.
German auto provider Mahle Worldwide makes the PCV valve heater.
“Smoke could also be noticeable from the world close to the engine compartment,” BMW stated within the report. “A plastic burning odor might also be noticeable.”
BMW has not obtained any stories of accidents or accidents associated to the difficulty, in line with the report.
A BMW spokesman didn’t instantly reply to a request by Automotive Information for remark.
